Gods of Change – Pain, Crisis and the Transits of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto

The title of this book is self-explanatory…almost!  I half expected messages of ‘gloom and doom’ relating to a multitude of potential crises. What I found instead was meaningful insight that encourages one to actively participate with difficult situations while capitalizing on the opportunity for personal growth and profound purpose.

In the very first page of the introduction, Howard Sasportas sets the stage for both the content and the value of the book. He tells us that we are all going to meet pain, crisis or change in our lives, but the key is how to understand these events and circumstances so they can be used creatively and productively. For me, this was a ‘hook’, and I was eager to dig in.

It didn’t take long for me to ask the question “Why haven’t I read this book already?!” In PART ONE – ‘Collaboration with the Inevitable’, a phrase he borrows from Roberto Assagioli, Sasportas provides a foundation with practical guidelines from which to consider the remainder of the text. Frankly, if one reads only the first forty-two pages, that alone would be substantial value. However, I encourage you to immerse yourself in each chapter to fully absorb the imparted wisdom. And wisdom it is!

Transits of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are individually considered within the context of crises. Each of their chapters are immediately followed by another describing the planet’s journey through the houses, highlighting inherent potential when in aspect to other planets. Sasportas skillfully uses references to psychology and mythology, along with real-life examples, offering depth and broad perspective that can be understood and applied in a practical sense. What he shares here, along with the ‘Three Case Histories’ in Chapter 10, is undeniably significant.

Each section of this book is packed with useful take-aways. The value of Sasportas’ perspective, combined with highly readable text, has allowed me to immediately expand my own views and understanding of these outer planets and the potential benefit of their transits…if one understands the opportunity at hand. Many of us have come across examples of situations where people ‘just let life happen to them’ or hope for the best and then struggle to make sense of things. It doesn’t have to be that way. For me, ‘Gods of Change’ will be a trusted resource from this point forward. I suggest you don’t put off reading this book, it will prove its value sooner than you might expect.
