This lovely new version of ‘The Sacred Dance of Venus and Mars’ features a new cover and updated tables to 2035 for the positions of Venus and Mars. A beautiful book which for the first time explores the relationship between the cycles of Venus and Mars and their impact on our lives – especially where relationships are concerned. Michele Finey has thoroughly researched her subject, and using many case histories she shows how, although synastry is important, possibly of greater importance is the aspect between the two planets within their cycles because that can dictate the timing of key moments in a relationship. She shows how the degree of the original conjunction between the two planets (‘the degree of passion’), based on the time of birth can indicate the kind of the people we are attracted to and the course a romance can follow. A really absorbing book which will prompt hours of research!

In The Sacred Dance of Venus & Mars, Michele Finey has taken a unique approach to consider the relationship between these two planets. As the book title suggests, she has used the metaphor of dance and choreography to illustrate the relationship between them. She describes the unique astronomy associated with each, then draws them together. Like a sensual and seductive dance between lovers, for a time, Venus and Mars are the only two planets in the universe.
There is a strong technical element to the detail presented, both astrologically and astronomically, but Finey provides clear and specific guidance offering a foundational understanding of the material. Beginning with some perspective for each of these planets and their phases, with commentary on the various aspects between them, examples serve to illustrate potential manifestations for individual lives and experiences. The first three sections of the book lay the groundwork for the bigger picture, in Section Four, wherein the 32-year synodic cycle of Venus and Mars is discussed.
Most fascinating for me was a section on ‘The Relationship Revolution 1964-2034’. Anyone who experienced, or is aware of, the social changes and creative influences of the 1960s will, undoubtedly, resonate with the Venus-Mars cycle which began in 1964. Finey suggests there is a fundamental link between Venus-Mars and Uranus-Pluto relationships, with a dynamic energy exchange that can act as a catalyst for change. The difference being that the combination of Venus and Mars relates to revolutionary and creative power that is more personally accessible. Interesting to consider.
Collective examples are also provided, highlighting significant world events and their impact on the wider collective including: WWII; the Age of Enlightenment; and well-known major events tracked against the USA Sibley Chart. Extending the relevance of the Venus-Mars relationship beyond the scope of individual experience offers a broader and a more all-encompassing perspective. Of course, any work on Venus and Mars would not be complete without examples of synastry, and Section Five offers such case studies.
The Venus-Mars Saros is a new area of research and, as Michele Finey tells us, her investigation is ongoing so it will be interesting to see where that leads. For now, The Sacred Dance of Venus & Mars is a well thought out introduction that is worth the read.
